How to Dress Like Johannes Huebl
For our latest collection, we’ve partnered with style icon and global tastemaker, Johannes Huebl.
Epitomising contemporary urbanity, German-born Huebl began modelling in the late 90s, and has since become one of the industry’s most recognisable faces; famed for his flair for dressing as much as for his presence in major fashion campaigns. This season, he has employed his impeccable sense of style to create with us a capsule collection that caters to the modern man.
Inspired by his jet-setting lifestyle and signature styling, the x Johannes Huebl capsule collection is composed of stalwart pieces to build the perfect wardrobe, imbued with sartorial elegance. Here, we talk to Johannes about his personal style, the new collection, and his travel tips!
FC: Tell us about the inspiration behind this collection?
JH: I think of the collection as my interpretation of Frescobol’s own chic resortwear. Our styles have great overlap and I have always had lots of Frescobol pieces in my wardrobe for my summer styling. I designed the pieces with my favourite summer spots in mind and envisioned myself wearing them at those resorts. I wanted to be able to wear them from the Amalfi Coast to the Caribbean, and from Los Angeles to a summer in London. They are pieces that you can combine or separate and wear around the world. The collection includes all the stapes of a modern travel wardrobe.
FC: Who is the collection aimed at?
JH: The modern traveling man who is looking for elegant and comfortable resort wear and who would wear the blazers with the nonchalance we intended it to.
FC: Describe the capsule in 3 words.
JH: Elegant, timeless, versatile.
FC: What are your favourite pieces in the collection?
JH: So far, I’ve gotten the most wear out of the Long Sleeved Tencel Camp Collar Shirt. I love the way the fabric feels, it hugs the body and is very comfortable. I have been styling it in various ways, from a casual beach lunch look to an evening look under a blazer. This fabric is also sustainable, as it is made from a biodegradable material, which is great as this is a growing concern of mine. The Double Breasted Linen Blazer in Navy is also a stand out piece for me. It can be worn in so many different ways and will always look chic.
FC: How would you describe your own style?
JH: Timeless. I buy pieces you can wear year after year. I’m very inspired by the elegance of classic style. I try to avoid trends and fads. Style to me is not how you dress, it’s how you live. It’s part of a lifestyle and it’s personal. It’s an attitude.
FC: As always, the collection really speaks to the spirit of Rio de Janeiro as much as it does your own taste. Talk to us about Brazil…
JH: It’s not hard to be inspired by Brazil. It has some of the most beautiful and diverse scenery in the world. The juxtaposition of sea and city is truly stunning. I loved flying back to Brazil to shoot the collection. Every time I visit I am blown away by the vibrancy of the country. All of my Brazilian friends are so different, but the one thing they have in common is their joy and appreciation for life. We stayed in Ipanema for the shoot, so it was great to be able to take in the lifestyle and culture there- I hope the collection has some of that quintessential Carioca cool that you see all around Rio.
FC: Here at Frescobol Carioca, our focus is always on resortwear. What is most important for you when packing for a trip away?
JH: Versatile pieces, that you can wear from beach to bar. Light to pack - light fabrics, linens, cotton, seersucker. Easy to wear, I want to be comfortable and elegant at the same time.
FC: Any other travel tips?
JH:I wouldn’t know where to start! I have a failsafe routine now, as a result of many years of travelling. Knowing the weather of my destination is key and then packing accordingly. I use a cabin trolley to offset heavy hand luggage with all my electronics, packing comfortable lounge wear for the plane….and skincare! Always hydrate and moisturise!
